Who We Are

The Story of the Sunflower

Kansas is the “Sunflower State,” and just as Jesus used parables to reveal God’s truth, we see sunflowers as a modern parable from nature. Consider the power of a single seed. One sunflower seed planted in good soil can yield thousands of seeds in just one season. This reminds us of Jesus’ Parable of the Sower (Matthew 13:1-23), where He teaches that God can bring about an extraordinary harvest in a person’s life.

Sunflowers have a unique trait: they follow the sun’s path each day, from sunrise to sunset. This mirrors Jesus’ teaching that He is the “light of the world” (John 8:12), inviting us to follow Him, allowing His light to guide us through life.

Finally, sunflowers reveal the intricate beauty and design of creation, reflecting God’s glory (Romans 1:20). Their growth often follows the Fibonacci sequence, a mathematical pattern linked to beauty and harmony—what some call the “Divine Proportion.” This shows us that God’s creation holds a divine order that invites us to know Him, experience His beauty, and understand His grace through Jesus.

The sunflower isn’t just a flower to us; it’s a symbol of God’s love, truth, and the transformative power of the Gospel.
